Somewhere in the middle of my “Go H+A+R+D” posting on Wednesday, I wrote about the (invented) name M-Dig:
The name was meant to suggest, at considerable distance, mandingo, now slang for ‘black man with a huge dick’, ultimately from the ethnonym Mandingo, for a West African tribe. Possibly through the medium of a book, a play, and a movie, Mandingo came to connote intense black sexuality, threatening and emasculating to white men in general, but attractive to many gay white men (especially in the South) as a symbol of virility.
More specifically, mandingo indexes a stereoype of black men as big, powerful, big dicked, oversexed, and hot for white women — thus constituting a sexual threat to white women and an emasculating threat to (straight) white men.
In a comment on that posting, Arne Adolfsen reported hearing mandingo party as the name of some social practice (which he was unfamiliar with). My first guess was that the expression referred to an event in which white men would “teach the mandingos a lesson” or “put the mandingos in their place”, by physically assaulting black men, or even lynching them; such things have happened and continue to happen. But I can find no evidence at all for this usage of mandingo party.
What I did find is the expression used to refer to a black gangbang of a white woman, and, more specifically, to a particular variety of such an event, in which white men are (willingly) cuckolded by mandingos. The ways of sexual and racial relations are varied and, often, dismaying.
(The title pretty much tells the story. This is a spin-off from a posting yesterday, and it doesn’t have much to do with language. On the other hand, there are no blunt descriptions of man-man sex or anything like that. Just the jockstraps.)
Yesterday’s posting “Go H+A+R+D” had a section on the Strap Jock pictured in #1 there and its differences from the classic jockstrap. That led me back into the astounding world of jockstraps and the men who love them — a huge and varied world of websites (like The Underwear Expert), companies that design jocks, companies that sell them, and blogging by fans. With tons and tons of photos.

Hugh Jackman’s recent appearance on this blog (#6 in this posting) was as the fierce Wolverine in the X-Man films — that is, as the product of a severe regimen of diet and free-weight workouts that left him bulked up and frighteningly ripped, quite remarkable but to my mind no longer attractive (though tastes differ in these things). So let me present some other sides of Jackman.

The card said this was a photo of model Nathan Black, from Body Image Productions. That led me to the company’s website (not especially easy to negotiate) and eventually to the information that #1 was from a photo spread in Men magazine (formerly Advocate Men) by male photographer Ron Lloyd — a magazine that was one of a number of publications that supplied high-quality erotic photography (featuring lots of full-frontal nudity) appealing primarily to to gay men (who used it as jack-off fuel) but also to straight women. The models have attractive (and carefully developed) bodies — they are muscle hunks — which they, in effect, sell: they are professional muscle hunks.
Body Image Productions has an even narrower focus: its wares are aimed specifically and unapologetically at gay men, and they are intended as well “for the physique connoisseur”.
