Two cartoons from friends

April 10, 2018

(Cartoons, language play, food, and humor, but also plain discussion of some sexual practices, so not for kids or the sexually modest.)

Cartoons come to me via friends on Facebook all the time, but only occasionally are they directed to me specifically, because I would especially enjoy them. Two of them yesterday, however, of very different character (one sweetly silly, one sophomorically crude): a Dave Coverly Speed Bump cartoon from 11/10/10 “Boomeringue” (passed on by Chris Hansen); and a Charlie Higson Heck If I Know comic from 4/7/18 “A Truck” (passed on by Michael Palmer):

Know Your Menu

April 1, 2018

A bit of clever cartoon humor created by Michael Babich for the Google+ community UX/UI Design (and posted on Facebook):

A play on the icons used on computer platforms for various ways of displaying information, likening the shape of the icons to the shape of kinds of food (a hamburger, döner kebab on a vertical rotisserie, a bento box, a kebab on a stick, meatballs). And exploiting the ambiguity of the noun menu — in its older sense in a food context and in a metaphorical sense in computing.

Two Easter cartoons

April 1, 2018

One bit of language play (requiring some food knowledge) and one cartoon photograph (rather than drawing) on the Therapist cartoon meme, with the Easter Bunny folded in:

(#1) Poppin’ Fresh the Pillsbury Doughboy meets the Matzo Man

(#2) “I don’t know where the eggs come from, and I have no idea why I feel compelled to hide them.”

Easter Fool’s

April 1, 2018

That would be today, simultaneously April Fool’s Day and Easter Sunday. Celebrations for both are in progress.

For April Fool’s Day, a TitanMen ad offers, unaccountably to my mind, sale prices on gay porn flicks like Dick Danger 2; on that flick, see my 3/9/18 posting “The further adventures of Dick Danger”; for the sale ad, see #1 in today’s AZBlogX posting “For Easter Fool’s Day”. (Could it be that the TitanMen 35%-off sale is a joke?)

Then some food pranks for the holiday, to add to those in my 4/1 14 posting “April 1”.

As for Easter, I’ve prepared a dinner table of mostly X-rated paschal images in my AZBlogX posting, sumarized below.

Pride Time #5: on Barceloneta beach

March 30, 2018

(From June 2017. Underwear men, Catalonia, gay life, Barcelona beaches, art and architecture, and, eventually, food. First, underwear with my captions.)

Stretched out on rocks
Homage to Barceloneta
Between sail and fish

(#2)

Sant Joan the sweet
Celebrant of gay pride
Summer solstice confection
Of fruit and nuts

It’s all about Barcelona, the beach, and swim briefs.

The pisco sour

March 28, 2018

What to drink with your picadillo (whether a Mexican-style taco filling or a Cuban-style stew)? A spicy red wine, like grenache, perhaps. Or a dark beer. Or maybe some brandy. Juan Gomez suggested pisco to me, and I realized I’d never had any. And that took me to the pisco sour.

picadillo

March 26, 2018

In my posting queue from long ago, a note about a bon appétit magazine piece on picadillo; the function of the note was mostly to remind me of the version of picadillo that Ann Daingerfield (Zwicky) and I used to make in Columbus OH: a kind of do-it-yourself Mexican meal. The picadillo mixture keeping warm in a big bowl; a platter of browned tortillas to make into tacos and fill with the picadillo; and a large assortment of small bowls with things to add to the tacos.

The result was something along these lines:

The Caesar cocktail

March 26, 2018

The northern answer to the Bloody Mary. It started in Calgary about 50 years ago.

Clam broth /juice is the secret ingredient

From the girlheartfood site from 6/8/17:

This Ultimate Caesar Cocktail is a total Canadian classic. It’s Clamato juice based with a hit of vodka and the whole thing gets flavour and spice from ingredients like horseradish, Worcestershire sauce and hot sauce.

Three Saturday lingtoons

A portmanteau (fishwich), a perfect pun (on the lam / lamb), an imperfect pun (bar / bark mitzvah):

You want beer with that pork cloud?

March 20, 2018

Another chapter in the continuing story of pork cloud — begun back on the 15th in my posting “I wandered lonely as a pork cloud”:

Yes, pork cloud. What the Bacon’s Heir company has re-named their version of chicharrones, aka (fried) pork rinds, which they believe are so fluffy that they have to be thought of as pork puffs

I find the name irremediably absurd: I see banks of fluffy pork scudding across the sky, and I giggle helplessly.

(#1) Some pork clouds

The company’s latest ad campaign recommends pairings of beers with the various flavors of pork cloud:
