Zipfixation

July 19, 2020

Today, Zippy returns to Billy’s Burg-O-Rama in Oxford MA (last visited in 2016), where he concludes that “Life is an endless panorama of o-rama word endings”:

(#1)

Against a background of the inventive food establishment name Burg-O-Rama, Zippy cites early examples of –orama words that served as the models for the development of the libfix -((o/a)r)ama.

Buttocks IV: cake(s) and tail

July 18, 2020

(It’s about slang, but there are going to be buttocks, mostly men’s, some startlingly bare, so this posting will not to be everyone’s taste.)

Following up on yesterday’s posting “Buttocks III: (mainstream) art, male art, porn”, Timothy Riddle offered some recently fashionable slang for ‘buttocks’: the M(ass) noun cake, as used by (straight) pornstar Johnny Stone (who has a famously fine ass, and is proud of it, even though it’s not an especially relevant feature in his porn work); and by DC Comics on its Twitter site, showing a photo of the superhero Nightwing (the former Robin / Dick Grayson), played by Brenton Thwaites, who’s also famous for his fine ass, which is much featured on the series.

So: into still more buttocks slang, both M cake and (more commonly) PL C(ount) cakes.

Buttocks III: (mainstream) art, male art, porn

July 17, 2020

A follow-up to two earlier postings today, about art works of various kinds focused on the male buttocks. The first, “Buttocks display” was largely about men’s premium underwear ads celebrating male buttocks — work by professional photographers (using professional models), carefuly posed and lit, and often very artfully framed, but also clearly attentive to the sexual desirability of the models’ bodies. Art with a homoerotic eye. One brand of what is known as male art. (For a collection of books on the genre, see the Page on Male art on this blog.)

The second posting, “The art of the buttocks”, looked at some mainstream art — notably, paintings by the early 19th-century artist William Etty (who specialized in nudes of all sorts).

And then there’s frank (gay) porn, in which buttocks play a central role (because anal intercourse does). Covered very extensively on this blog (see the Page on pornstars on this blog).

The art of the buttocks

July 17, 2020

In response to my “Buttocks Display” posting this morning, Sim Aberson wrote to say he expected the posting would have been about this entertaining (but superficial) posting on the Nerdist site, “Museums Fight Over Who Has the Best Butt Art” by Lindsay Romain on 7/8.

Now, I was providing an annotated inventory, specifically of my blog postings (not of the literature in general), specifically on male buttocks displayed as objects of sexual desire, but that’s just one small corner of the world of male nudes in art. In fact, the Nerdist piece is even more general than that.

Buttocks display

July 17, 2020

(Warning: below the fold, naked male buttocks displayed as objects of sexual desire — so not to everyone’s taste.)

An announcement of a new Page on this blog (in the “Xblog essays” section, of rough-edged gay stuff), inventorying postings — annotated, with quotations — on the display of male buttocks as objects of sexual desire. From the prefatory material:

postings listed here are from AZBlog; postings on the LiveJournal blog AZBlogX — http://arnold-x-zwicky.livejournal.com — routinely show buttocks as objects of sexual desire, in displays of the body and in depictions of mansex

this Page is a work in progress; the first draft listed postings only from 8/11/17; earlier postings are added from time to time

quiescent and deliquescent

July 16, 2020

My morning names for 1/26 (yes, my posting queue is absurdly backed up; life has been hard). quiescent came to me first, in connection with popsicles, with deliquescent immediately following. I’ll post about deliquescence first, because there’s less to say; quiescence, on the other hand, plays an important role in some earlier, rather remarkable, postings on this blog (naked male buttocks are involved, so the Creamsicle portion of this posting might not suit all readers).

At the Paleo Cafe

July 15, 2020

Today’s Wayno/Piraro Bizarro strip (Wayno’s title: “Farm to Slab”):

(#1) (If you’re puzzled by the odd symbols in the cartoon — Dan Piraro says there are 4 in this strip — see this Page.)

A combination of two cartoon memes: the familiar Caveman meme, plus  a Remarkable Restaurant meme that’s a specialty of the Bizarro strips.

Plus the portmanteau word play in filet magnon (filet mignon + cro-magnon). And a subtle play on a systematic ambiguity between raw and cooked understandings in certain food names, in particular for cuts of meat. You ask for a filet at the Paleo Cafe, you get a hunk of raw meat.

His banana Ana and his avocados Arnold

July 14, 2020

(Rudely suggestive song taking off on the names of toys for infants, so sure to be offensive to some.)

Sighted by Ann Burlingham at a toy store in the Pittsburgh suburb of Oakmont (and posted on Facebook on 10/30/19), these “natural rubber teethers”, in a “fruits and vegetables series”:

CORN/BEEF

Following up on NO PENGUINS (my 12/4/19 posting here), another adventure in food signage, also initially presented almost entirely without context. This one takes us into the mysteries of punctuation, t/d-deletion in English, and the food practices of modern America.

The impetus:

This is available as a symbol conveying NO PENGUINS, meaning that penguins are not allowed in the signed area or will not be admitted to the signed area (under a penalty of some sort). The slash is the slash of exclusion.

Turkish turquoise

July 13, 2020

(About men’s bodies, with allusions to mansex, so not suitable for kids or the sexually modest.)

The Daily Jocks 7/10 ad for two more items in the Elia beachwear company’s offerings for men: the Titan swim short in the (new) Turkish Tile pattern, worn by a model I pronounce to be a Turkish young man named Yusuf; and the Kos enhanced-cup swim brief in turquoise, worn by a (presumed) Romanian man I am calling Alexandru.

This is the fourth in a series of postings about Elia’s offerings, and I’m going to need to explain how Romania, Greece, and Turkey are all somehow mixed up in this. But first, the ad and a story I have spun about Yusuf and Alexandru in it.
