Following up on yesterday’s “The abs/junk buddies” posting, which has a Daily Jocks ad together with a story that’s essentially a long caption for the image, some new Pages: under Captioning,
a Page on AZ captions, with my captions (and similar amendments) for ads, porn photos, male photography, and other images (most are slyly or flagrantly gay; many are X-rated);
and a Page On captioning, with my postings about captions, especially in relation to other genres and forms.
On AZBlogX, a posting with an image of a big dick twink (obviously not for the kiddies or the sexually modest), with notes on beautiful penises, the phonology of the compound big dick twink, and its semantics.
Continuing my gradual accumulation of (publicly available) inventories of postings on various subjects (replacing my in-house files, in MS Word): AZBlog postings on parodies, burlesques, and playful allusions, here.
It takes considerable work to create html files for this blog (though once created, they’re easily updated). My hope is that others will find these inventories useful, but frankly I have no evidence that this is so; I suspect that hardly anyone one pays attention to the Pages on my blog (listed on the right edge of the main page). It’s all kind of discouraging.
Continuing my project of bringing lists of postings and other resources from my private stash (in Word documents on my computer) to publicly available materials (notably, in html documents on this blog, especially in Pages), I’ve added a Page (under Lists) with information about postings on diners, indebted especially to Zippy the Pinhead. This blog takes me to some odd places.
As with other Pages, this one will be regularly updated as new material comes in. Soon to be added to the “Plants postings” list, one on privet / ligustrum (to which I turn out to be significantly allergic).

Fascinating piece on Slate on the 8th by Bennett Muraskin, “Jewish Surnames Explained”. The crucial fact is that for a long time Jews had no family names as we understand them now, but used references of the FN1 child-of FN2 sort (very common around the world); I am Arnold Arnoldson, and my father was Arnold Melchiorson, in this system. For reasons briedfly noted in this piece, Jews were required to adopt fixed (and inheritable) family names; the piece eumerates the various strategies they adopted.
