Abraham Lincoln hosts two festivals of pleasure

Thanks to this year’s alignment of the Gregorian and Roman Catholic church calendars and the schedule of official US holidays, the month of February 2023 has two periods of presidential pleasure in it — festivals of Lincoln and license (food and sex) embracing first 2/12 (Lincoln Darwin Day), 2/13 (today, LDV Day), and 2/14 (Valentine’s Day), and then 2/20 ((US) Presidents Day) and 2/21 (Mardi Gras).

The Valentine ❤️ cluster (every year).

— 2/12, Lincoln Darwin Day, celebrating the shared birthday, in 1809, of Abraham Lincoln and Charles Darwin

— 2/14, Valentine’s 💘 Day, which

originated as a Christian feast day honoring one or two early Christian martyrs named Saint Valentine and, through later folk traditions, has become a significant cultural, religious, and commercial celebration of romance and love in many regions of the world (Wikipedia link)

A day of eggplant 🍆, peach 🍑, and chocolate heart 🤎.

— 2/13, between them, LDV Day. From my 2/13/20 posting “Lincoln Darwin Valentine Day”:

Lincoln Darwin Valentine Day lies in the cleft between Lincoln Darwin Day, February 12th, and Valentine’s Day, February 14th. It is a day of unbridled mansexual excess, coming as it does between the high seriousness of the day that honors two towering figures — two Great Men — of the 19th century and the romantic heterosexual excesses of Valentine’s Day. It’s Carnal Carnival without reference to the religious calendar (actual Mardi Gras can fall any time between February 3rd and March 9th).

The symbol of LDV Day is a red 🌹or pink rose bud on its stem, standing simultaneously for a fat erect penis … and for a quivering anal rosette

The litany for the occasion includes Psalm 45, “Full of grace are thy lips” and Psalm 54, “An offering of a free heart will I give thee”.

Of course, there is appropriate clothing as well. Some discussion in my 2/13/19 posting “Captain of our fairy band” of a Daily Jocks sale ad for Marco Marco Valentine’s Day homowear. The Marco Marco logo, telling you how the designer inclines:

Then from the Marco Marco site on 2/6/19: “The way to a man’s heart is through his pants”:

With my LDV doggerel (a 4×4: a quatrain of (trochaic) tetrameter):

Lincoln Darwin Valentine
Is a cutup friend of mine
Loves the boys with all his heart
Loves them hard in every part

The Mardi Gras🕺cluster (on occasion).

— 2/20 (this year), Presidents (also President’s / Presidents’) Day, a US holiday always on a Monday. Compacting Lincoln’s actual birthday (2/12) and Washington’s (2/22) into a single Monday holiday

— 2/21 (this year), Shrove Tuesday / Mardi Gras / Carnival / Pancake 🥞 Day / Fas(t)nacht / Doughnut 🍩 Day (in the land of my childhood). A day of — depending on where you are — food excesses, sexual excesses, raucous parading in the streets in fabulous costumes, role inversions, whatever, before the 40-day shriving of Lent, the Christian season of penance before Easter’s rebirth (through crucifixion and resurrection).

On the N + N compound noun PANCAKE DAY, as Ruthie understands the holiday in a One Big Happy cartoon from 2009:

(4) Ruthie treats the compound as a common noun pancake day ‘day for (eating) pancakes’, rather than as a proper noun Pancake Day referring to a holiday conventionally associated with the eating of pancakes (and other rich and fatty foods and sweet foods).

And then, of course, the historical account. From my 2/21/12 posting “St. Pancake’s Day”:

Christians worldwide are remembering the martyrdom of St Pancake of Antioch, who was stuffed full of hot cheese, fried and repeatedly thrown into the air around 530 AD.

… since it’s Mardi Gras, you can listen to the song “Iko Iko”, put on your mask and costume, wear your beads, dance in the street, and gorge on New Orleans food (beignets, of course, but also gumbo, jambalaya, red beans and rice, cheese grits, po’boys, crawfish pie, etc.) and drink Hurricanes.

And get laid.

That’s just a week from tomorrow. Time to get yourself in gear.

The Twelfth is Natural Selection Day, and two days later is Sexual Selection Day.
