(about a family of vulgar slang expressions, so streams of raunchy talk about sex: totally not for kids or the sexually modest)
With apologies to the Rodgers and Hammerstein of Carousel, notes on to bust a nut ‘to ejaculate, orgasm’ and its kin, among them the verbs bust, nut, dick, and ball (plus all those bodypart nouns).
Setting the scene. From my 5/21/20 posting “Bro Buddies”, an excerpt from a description of a gay porn flick from Falcon:
when you need to bust a nut, log on and tune into the studs in the ‘Bro Buddies’ house as they suck and fuck their way to drained balls, live on camera.
with my pointer to:
the sexual slang to bust a nut ‘to ejaculate, orgasm’, based on nut ‘testicle’. (As it happens, both to bust and [the verbing of nut ‘testicle’] to nut are attested as synonyms.)
The sexual idiom has the
verb bust-2: informal [with object] 1 break, split, or burst (something): they bust the tunnel wide open |figurative: the film busts every box-office record. (NOAD)
with the sexual bodypart noun nut ‘testicle’ as object.
Now, a complexity: to bust a nut ‘to ejaculate’ seems to be a general AmE idiom, a metaphorical understanding of ‘to burst a testicle’. The verb to nut ‘to ejaculate’ is, however, given (inaccurately) in GDoS as (US black), while the verb to bust ‘to ejaculate’ seems genuinely to be a specifically Black lexical item. Meanwhile, the sexual bodypart noun nut ‘testicle’ is, like the sexual bodypart noun ball, widespread slang. It then looks like to bust a nut isn’t built on sexual to bust (from Black English), but that the Black English verb was extracted by (some) Black speakers for their vernacular, something just for them (and especially well suited for hiphop).
Some of the details. For nut, GDoS has verb-4
sense 1 (US) to have sexual intercourse
but
sense 2 (US black) to reach orgasm, to ejaculate. 1999 Dr. Dre ‘Let’s Get High’ [lyrics] Laid the bitch out, then I put it in her mouth / Pulled out, nutted on a towel and passed out.
This is by no means a specifically Black usage, though it’s not uncommon there. Most of the writers of the cites below are white (some are male, some female):
from Pornhub: He wanted me to fuck him so hard and nut on him
from Reddit: he wants to do porn and nut on his face
from Ero Me: My tight Asian pussy grips too hard and makes him nut fast
from Pornhub: Forgot to take birth control so I let him nut in my ass
from Ero Me: Wasn’t expecting him to nut in my mouth
An entertaining side comment.
verb-2 to nut ‘to castrate’
That is, ‘to de-nut’: the removal verb to nut. Compare the removal verb to dust, as in dust the living-room with a feather duster — versus the supply verb of dust the living-room for fingerprints. So far as I know, a supply verb to nut ‘provide with testicles’ has not yet been attested, though it’s available to refer to supplying testicles (along with a penis) for G.I. Joe and Ken: Little Bobby nutted and dicked G.I.Joe to make him a real man.
Genuinely Black English to bust, from GDoS:
verb-1 bust sense 7(c) (US black) to ejaculate, esp. prematurely [with several cites].
My own cite, in lyrics from B.O.Y.S.N.E.X.T.D.O.O.R. (Softwilly Records), Actin’ Up: Strokin’ my shmeat, and I bust on his face / I’m fuckin him slow, I’m keeping my pace [shmeat ‘meat, penis’].
I’ve found just one cite of sexual bust from what I think is a white guy:
on Quora: I had someone from grindr come over and fuck me for the first time. He busted fast then left
(We’d expect Black usage to get appropriated occasionally by white speakers.)
Sexual bodypart nouns. ball(s) and nut(s), dick and cock. In each pair, the first noun is in some hard-to-characterize way more everyday, or possibly registrally more free. The nouns ball and dick are more easily verbed, with the meaning ‘to fuck, screw’ [as agent]; dick can also be verbed in other ways not open to cock; and many speakers report that the noun cock sems “dirtier” than dick (this last effect is enhanced by the phonesthetically “little” vowel [ɪ] on dick vs. the “big” [a] in cock).
To note, then:
— the verbing to ball [without object] ‘to have sexual intercourse’; [with object] ‘to fuck, screw’ [as agent]
— the verbing to dick ‘to fuck’ [as agent]
— from NOAD on
noun dick-1 vulgar slang: 1 [a] a penis. [b] a stupid or contemptible man. 2 [with negative] North American anything at all: you don’t know dick about this — you haven’t a clue!
verb mainly North American 1 [no object] informal handle something inexpertly; meddle: he started dicking around with the controls. 2[with object](of a man) have sex with [AZ: as agent (not patient), hence ‘fuck, screw’].
