Two 6/22 cartoons

… from  the New Yorker issue of that day: a Liana Finck cartoon on the never-done work of women; and an Ellis Rosen cartoon featuring a fully-accredited monster.

The Finck. A young mother, frazzled by the care of a newborn, faces the thoughtless assumption that she is there to serve others:

(#1) Dark, murderous, thoughts flit through her mind, but she’s a genuinely nice person, so she will make lunch for her appallingly dense visitors; but they’ll be the first to go down when the revolution comes (Ein Schiff, mit acht Segeln und mit fünfzig Kanonen … Hoppla!)

The Rosen. A monstrous magus magister is fully accredited academically:

(#2) Vorgar’s spiritual antecedent is the Vorgon poet from Douglas Adams’s The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy:

The Vogons are an alien race … They are slug-like but vaguely humanoid, are bulkier than humans, and have green skin. Vogons are described as mindlessly bureaucratic, aggressive, having as much sex appeal as a road accident, and the writers of the third worst poetry in the universe. [Adams: “On no account should you allow a Vogon to read poetry at you.”]

In contrast to the unfortunately giggle-inducing Vorgar, I am Zotgar, creator of worlds, scribe of desire, doctor of philosophy (I have the certificate, framed; in Latin). I am the mellow magus magister; gaze upon me, gentles, and smile.
