(Underwear models displaying their bodies, with allusions to various forms of intense man-on-man sex, so not to everyone’s taste)
A Daily Jocks sale ad in my email today (2/25):
What sort of dramatic relationship from the world of the butch faggy — Red Guy and Blue Guy, resplendent in their gorgeous intense colors — is illustrated here? Tell us their story!
On butch fagginess, see the Page on this blog linking to my postings about the phenomenon: presentations of self that advertise “I’m a slut, honey” — I’m an in-your-face fag(got) — while the rest of the model’s presentation shouts “And I’m all man!” — conveying a high-macho identity along with a flagrantly gay one.
As for the Cellblock13 ad, it looks like Red Guy has been a bad, bad boy — soliciting getting gangbanged, maybe, or on his knees serving as a t-room queen — stepping out on the Daddy he serves as a Boy. Now showing his shame face, but it’s guilt tinged with cocky rebelliousness. Daddy Blue Guy will have to teach him a lesson, punish him for his transgressions, bring him to heel. Maybe with sharp pain and overwhelming humiliation — which might be exactly what the Boy Red Guy longs for from his harsh Daddy; the ways of desire are complex.
I know, it’s hard to think of Blue Guy as a pain-wielding dominant when he’s wearing that pretty but rather silly tank top (rather than, say, a studded leather harness). But that’s a form of butch fagginess. For all we know, Blue Guy’s playroom for his Boy might feature a St. Andrew’s cross or a rimseat — not in any way playful, though deeply satisfying for both Daddy Blue and Boy Red.

The similarity between men’s uniforms on shows like “American Gladiator” and gay porn unitards is remarkable. Direction of causality? Indeterminate.

My first speculation would be that the similarity isn’t a matter of borrowing from one genre to the other, but arises from a common cultural spring that is the inspiration for both of them. Which someone should explore.
I’m not the guy for that job, because I’m ignorant of “American Gladiator” and its ilk (kinky sex / fetishes, that’s one of my beats; roles and relationships, that’s another). A lot of popular culture is out of my experience.
