The rainbow beard

Displaying yourself flagrantly, for a very good cause. This is the tale of Lee Tucker and his rainbow beard … and more. It started with this:

(#1) LT: When you foolishly sign up to be the emcee for a rather amazing event at work. And it requires a rather dramatic look.

Work is Box, the business software company in downtown Redwood City CA (just up the road from my place):

(#2) Opened in 2005. Mission: “Make it easy for people to access, work with, and share all their content, on any device, wherever they are.”

Lee is a Senior Systems Theorist there. And his role last night was as co-emcee for the annual Box Executive Drag Raise, which raises funds for the Box ALC (AIDS/LifeCycle) team. About the team, from its website:

Greetings from the Box ALC Team! In June 2018, we’re each going to bike 545 miles from San Francisco to Los Angeles to raise over $140,000 to support HIV/AIDS prevention, testing, treatment, and support in California. Our team of cyclists and roadies represents the broader Box community: we are current employees, former employees, partners, customers, friends, and significant others. Our corporate sponsors have included Imagine Catering, Bluestar, Bespoke Collection, Club Fox, Ignite 360, Paxata, TechValidate, Catered Too, MBH Architects and DripDrop — most of whom are either Box customers or Box vendors!

Go to the site and contribute to the cause! Outrageous drag would be a sad thing to waste.

#1 is just step 1. After that, treatment and wash:

(#3) LT: The new beard dye changes me from “Gandalf the Grey” to “Gandalf the Gay”

Final beard prep (without makeup):

(#4) T-shirt says “I’m not gay, I’m super gay!”

And finally, Carin’ Walker (cue Karen Walker on Will & Grace):

(#5) LT: Wandering around downtown Redwood City dressed as gay care bear. As one does.

On the venue, from the Club Fox website:

With flexible floor plans, a modular stage, epic dance floor, state-of-the-art sound and light systems and a professional in-house staff to make your vision come to life, Club Fox is the perfect venue for events up to 240 people. Located across the street from a beautiful European style plaza we are steps away from the Redwood City Caltrain Station.

… We are available for all types of private events. We host corporate events, cocktail parties, concerts, holiday galas, receptions, birthdays, weddings, fundraisers, gambling nights, film screenings, luncheons, sit down dinners and much more.

Last night the Box Drag Raise. Tonight:

CRYPTICAL & Friends w/Stu Allen – A 4/20 Dance Party – California’s First legal 4/20 Show! [that’s 420 as in cannabis / marijuana / weed / pot]

And tomorrow:

WHEN DOVES CRY – The Prince Tribute Show – VIP – Sat 4/21
