Today’s foodmanteau

Today’s foodmanteau — the hybrid food’s my very own, composed yesterday (8/22) to be served for the first time today — is

biryanestrone = biryani + minestrone

The elements: (1) from the Hyderabad Dum Biryani in Mountain View CA, lamb keema biryani plus paneer (spicy fried cheese cubes); (2) from the Menlo Park Safeway store, Signature brand minestrone soup.

I have found the biryani to be almost indecently delicious, no doubt because my senses of smell and taste have been jacked high by the doses of the steroid prednisone I’m now taking. Meanwhile, I’ve finally moved off what amounted to a rice and meat diet (obviously not healthful in the long run) to add leafy greens and some fruit, both of which had been dropped for good reason (a crypto infection or something very much like it, an excess of potassium). Plus more dairy, primarily as various kinds of cheese. Then moving into a world of complex trade-offs and balancing acts, not all of which I will negotiate successfully. But aiming at more complex tastes and textures. And as a result, greater temptation.

Food, perilous food.

[note on foodmanteaus. My 6/10/13 posting “Foodmanteaus” has an inventory of some of my foodmanteau postings up to that time: cronut (= croissant + doughnut) and its kind. There have been many many more since then.]
