Warnings

Passed on by John McIntyre on Facebook yesterday, this Jim Benton cartoon:

(#1) It’s all the fault of the Cassandras; they should have made us believe them, they shouldn’t have let us not believe them

(There’s a Page on this blog about my postings on Jim Benton and his cartoons.)

Cassandra. From Wikipedia:

Cassandra or Kassandra in Greek mythology was a Trojan priestess dedicated to the god Apollo and fated by him to utter true prophecies but never to be believed. In modern usage her name is employed as a rhetorical device to indicate a person whose accurate prophecies, generally of impending disaster, are not believed.

Warnings. Danger, Will Robinson!:

(#2) The upside-down US flag, a sign of distress or extreme emergency

And a passionate shout from Robert de Niro at the 2025 Oscars show last night (not shown in the official feed of the ceremonies, for obvious reasons):

Fuck Tr**p!

This is a warning cry. Hana Filip posted it on Facebook today, commenting:

A few weeks ago I’d [have thought] that this kind of gesture is off, juvenile. After the Friday Oval Office Massacre (February 28, 2025, Tr**p & Vance ganging up on Zelenskyy), it is spot on, if they go low, we respond in kind.

To which I replied, savagely:

When you’re faced with a mad dog, the appropriate response is a shotgun, not polite reasoning.

I am the most minor of public figures, but I am doing what I can. This includes the way I refer to 45+47; from now on, her name is Putinitsa Bonespur, just Putinitsa for short — recognizing that she is Putin’s bitch, reduced to licking his filthy asshole several times a day and serving all of his other whims and desires. This will continue until she is arrested for treason, convicted, and sentenced to spend the rest of her life in 24-hour solitary confinement and in total silence. (I am against executions, especially for treason, given my country’s bad record in that area. But Putinitsa deserves to finish her life without any audience at all for her ravings.) At which point I will agree that she can revert to her maiden name, Drumpfitsa.

There is a saying amongst my family and friends, an apposite quotation of warning:

Don’t make him angry; you wouldn’t like him when he’s angry.

There are stories.

Related reading. Let me recommend my savage monitory joke from yesterday, “Three men walk into a bar”. And for absolutely chilling reading, check out the murderous power-broker Putin’s becoming a true believer of the toxic philosophy of the nut-case Aleksandr Dugin, who locates the glory of Russia in tsarist times and views the West as the enemy of all things Russian.
