The last days of August and the first days of September bring together a number of birthdays every year, plus U.S. Labor Day, and this year has the Jewish High Holy Days as well.
The High Holy Days:
The High Holidays or High Holy Days, in Judaism, more properly known as the Yamim Noraim (Hebrew …”Days of Awe”), may mean:
strictly, the holidays of Rosh Hashanah (“Jewish New Year”) and Yom Kippur (“Day of Atonement”);
by extension, the period of ten days including those holidays, known also as the Ten Days of Repentance (Aseret Yemei Teshuvah); or
by a further extension, the entire 40-day penitential period in the Jewish year from Rosh Chodesh Elul to Yom Kippur, traditionally taken to represent the forty days Moses spent on Mount Sinai before coming down with the second (“replacement”) set of the Tablets of stone.
This year Rosh Hashanah extends from theĀ evening of September 4th through the evening of September 6th, so today is right in the middle. Yom Kippur is the day from theĀ evening of September 13th through the evening of September 14th.
Labor Day was Monday the 2nd. (For the occasion, Falcon Studios did its annual sale of gay porn featuring working men, posters for which can be viewed here on AZBlogX. As I’ve pointed out several times on gay pornstars portraying jocks, pornstars aren’t in general particularly convincing portraying working-class men, even if they are themselves of working-class backgrounds; most of them have developed new personas.)
Then the birthdays, of friends old and dear: Ken Rudolph on the 27th, Ellen Sulkis James on the 30th, Benita Bendon Campbell on the 31st, Mike Jankulak on the 2nd. Then my grand-daughter Opal’s half-birthday on the 4th and my own birthday on the 6th.
