Annals of advertising

Put together male photography and the current zombie craze, add high fashion and total-body tattooing, and you have the latest advertising campaign from fashion designer Thierry Mugler, featuring model Rick Genest, as photographed by Mariano Vivanco. I came across the campaign in the pages of OUT magazine for April 2011, where I was stopped in my tracks by this image of Genest as Zombie Boy:

His clothes are perfect.

Now here’s Genest displaying his body, or at least the upper half of it (he’s worked in a freak show outside of Montreal):

There’s more.

The campaign is clearly meant to catch your attention and put Mugler’s name in your head. Then comes selling the clothes.

Pop culture reference slipped in there: from “Werewolves of London”, as performed by Warren Zevon:

I saw a werewolf drinkin a piña colada at Trader Vic’s
    And his hair was perfect.

    Werewolves, vampires, zombies, …

On Facebook, Tané Tachyon reports that her younger son recognized Benest from Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” video. And there he is. Widely viewable on YouTube.
