The Wayno / Piraro Bizarro of today (8/20), depicting a preposterous cartoon event:
It’s a Renaissance Faire and a Ren & Stimpy Show animated cartoon (if you’re puzzled by the odd symbols in the cartoon — Wayno says there are 3 in this strip — see this Page)
A crossing of the decorously ornamental and the enthusiastically down-and-dirty.
On the former, from Wikipedia:
A renaissance festival (also known as medieval fair, renaissance faire or ren faire) is an outdoor gathering that aims to entertain its guests by recreating a historical setting, most often the English Renaissance. These events are a form of living history, in which participants and performers simulate life in a past era through costumes, performances, and historically inspired activities, creating an immersive experience for visitors
Renaissance festivals generally include costumed entertainers or fair-goers, musical and theatrical acts, art and handicrafts for sale, and festival food.
And on the latter, Wikipedia notes that The Ren & Stimpy Show (1991-95) is noted for its “dark humor, sexual innuendo, adult humor, violence, and shock value”. Ren is a psychotic chihuahua, not a creature you’d want to let loose at a Ren Faire.
