Flamin’ Hot Cheetos Corn Dogs

Sing out, Louise! Flamin’ Hot Cheetos Corn Dogs, Flamin’ Hot Cheetos Corn Dogs; it’s a mantra, in trochaic (Strong + Weak feet) tetrameter (4 feet per line ) —

Strong Weak . Strong Rest | Strong Weak . Strong Weak

(There’s a Page on this blog about my postings on chants, cheers, mantras, and onomatomania)

But it’s all about the food, and that’s appropriate for August in the US; it’s a variant of the American State Fair staple, the corn dog. From NOAD on the basic object:

compound noun corn dog: North American English a hot dog covered in cornmeal batter, fried, and served on a stick.

And then the corn-puff variant, which popped up on my Facebook page yesterday:

Nick’s Flamin’ Hot Cheetos Corn Dog (with yellow mustard, according to my taste, not with Nick’s favored ketchup — which I find both too sweet and lacking in bite)

Nick’s 6/18/18 text from his site:

HI, I’M NICK!

I love food, and when it comes to food bigger and crazier is usually better.

You won’t find any other contributors here, just me, my crazy recipes and my ridiculous appetite. So, just sit back, relax and let the gluttony begin!

You will see that Nick presents himself as an adorable bad boy.

On the food. Flamin’ Hot Cheetos is an actual ingredient, a type of Cheetos (on which, see below). Crushed FHC is wrapped around a hot dog, with the whole business impaled on a stick for easy eating: excellent lowbrow street food — demotic food, so to speak. If you’re inclined to be phallotropic, as I am, the form and texture of the resulting corn dog is a bonus attraction.

I’d use kosher franks, of course, but otherwise I’m fully on board with the idea; I have a very high tolerance for State Fair food (trained in childhood at county fairs in Pennsylvania and then polished at Ohio State Fairs in Columbus). I’m also fond of Cheetos and way too fond of Doritos.

Sadly, Cheetos and Doritos are not kosher, because they contain gelatin from animals. But then I subscribe to the Chinese Food Exemption for all sorts of treyf, and anyway I’m not actually Jewish, just (as I sometimes say) Jewish-adjacent.

Cheetos (formerly styled as Chee-tos) is a crunchy corn-cheese puff snack brand made by Frito-Lay, a subsidiary of PepsiCo. Fritos creator Charles Elmer Doolin invented Cheetos in 1948, and began national distribution in the United States. The initial success of Cheetos was a contributing factor to the merger between The Frito Company and H.W. Lay & Company in 1961 to form Frito-Lay. In 1965 Frito-Lay merged with The Pepsi-Cola Company, forming PepsiCo, the current owner of the Cheetos brand. (Wikipedia link)

Doritos is an American brand of flavored tortilla chips produced by Frito-Lay, a wholly owned subsidiary of PepsiCo. The concept for Doritos originated at Disneyland at a restaurant managed by Frito-Lay. In 1966, Doritos became the first tortilla chip available nationally in the United States. The initial flavor was simply toasted corn, followed by taco in 1967, and the now-ubiquitous nacho cheese in 1972. The chips are available worldwide in a wide variety of flavors, differing regionally. (Wikipedia link)

I now point out that it would be easy to assemble Flamin’ Hot Doritos Tortilla Dogs — in at least three flavors (Nacho, Limón, Cool Ranch). I am salivating up a storm.
