Overnight delivery

The backstory, from my 7/5 posting “A Catch-22 of sorts”:

Now, I understood that this particular Sunday was going to be part of a long solitary holiday weekend, so I thought to lay in extra supplies. I would, in fact, give myself a holiday gift: Naked Sword’s well-crafted gay porn DVD Spain in the Ass 3 (2026) — sorry about the regrettable name — which I put in a rush order for, so it would arrive before Sunday (today).

But then [because my Xfinity tv account had been closed at Ramona St. (where I still am) and a new one created at the independent living community Avant (where I will be moved on Wednesday 7/8)] I no longer had any way of playing it here on Ramona St. And in fact, it seems that the shipment was diverted to Avant anyway, so the DVD is not where I am.

But then…

Overnight delivery. That was my impression yesterday (it seems that…). But NO. The order was indeed placed with Falcon / NakedSword on 7/2 for overnight delivery (for a steep shipping fee — $20.98 — where ordinary slow delivery is free). But then this morning (7/6) I got e-mail saying that the order had shipped, to arrive soon (at Ramona St., where I still am, knee-deep in preparations for moving).  Ah, nothing happened on 7/3 through 7/5 because that was the Independence Day holiday and F/NS turns out to be an operation (unlike Xfinity, Grubhub food delivery, and Instacart grocery delivery) that doesn’t function on holidays, so the speed of its delivery system was actually irrelevant. And the $30 was just wasted.

And I had an unpleasantly solitary (and unproductive) 3-day weekend that had, for my tastes, far too much war-victory celebration in it, with boastful waving of flags and singing of triumphal anthems. When I view the occasion as one for celebrating that we are all created equal and declare ourselves, together, free of the yokes of tyrants — singing, not about the flag waving in martial victory, but instead:

Lift every voice and sing,
Till earth and heaven ring,
Ring with the harmonies of Liberty

Just to make this perfectly clear: I know exactly where these words come from, and when I sing them, like many other singers, I weep with happiness:

Let our rejoicing rise
High as the list’ning skies,
Let it resound loud as the rolling sea

(In another tonality, focused on community rather than liberty: This land is your land and this land is my land / … This land was made for you and me.)

I’m now waiting for the DVD to appear here, so I can add it to the bag of DVDs to be moved. No entertaining gay porn on tap, but instead hours of muscular keyboard sonatas by Haydn, performed as explosions of delight by Christine Schornsheim.
