Tommy and the Doctor

Briefly noted.

Previously on this blog. In my 12/18 posting “Doctor The Who”,

a portmanteau title — Doctor Who + The Who = Doctor The Who  — for a hybrid cartoon character, who is simultaneously Tom Baker’s 4th Doctor Who and also the leaping, jumping Pete Townshend of the rock band The Who:

I referred to this Bizarro cartoon on Facebook as Tommy and the Doctor, referring to the Who’s rock opera Tommy, with Pete Townshend in the title role, and to Doctor Who, and making a sly filmic allusion, which Dennis Lewis caught on Facebook

Titular play. Our exchange on Facebook (somewhat edited):

— DL: And of course, we of a certain age will think of an innocent movie that blazed across the screens of theaters in county seats nationwide circa 1962 or 64.

— AZ > DL: That would be the third of the four Tammy movies, Tammy and the Doctor (1963, with Sandra Dee as Tammy); the others are Tammy and the Bachelor (1957, Debbie Reynolds), Tammy Tell Me True (1961, Sandra Dee), and Tammy and the Millionaire (1967, Debbie Watson). Pretty much spanning my college years (undergrad, 1958-62, and grad school, 1962-65), which we can now think of as my Tammy Years.

Not only did I catch the reference, but it immediately planted an earworm of Debbie Reynolds singing that song.
