Via Google Alerts, Zwicky news from Basel CH — about Marc-Olivier Z. Posted on 10/29/19 by European Seed Videos: “Marc-Olivier Zwicky, Head of Seedcare Europe, Africa and Middle East for Syngenta, talks with Shawn Brook at the Euroseeds 2019 Congress in Stockholm, Sweden from 13 to 15 October, 2019”. Born in Basel 2/18/83; played professional ice hockey (as a forward) for EHC (Eishockey Club) Basel in 2012-13 ; now an exec in Basel for Syngenta.
MOZ in his hockey days:
(Don’t have a lot of personal information about him, but the company profile says he speaks fluent English as well as his native German — I can verify this from watching a bit of the Syngenta interview — and of course is competent in French. He surely also speaks one or more varieties of Baseldytsch, but you wouldn’t bother to mention that on the company website; I note that the Swiss violist, organist, and composer Conrad Zwicky, who turns up every so often on this blog, writes quite a bit of comic material in Zurituusch / Züritüüsch for friends, though nothing you’d find on Facebook would suggest that he speaks, or even understands, the language.)
Then on Syngenta, from its site:
Successful crop protection starts with seeds, the essence of life. Today’s seeds offer a broad spectrum of varieties and traits that give undisputed advantages to the growers. Seed breeders and growers invest significant amounts of money into these technologies. Ensuring this investment is best protected while exposed in soil to diseases, insect pests, nematodes or abiotic stresses (e.g. drought), seed treatments are critical to protect the genetic potential of high value seeds.
To address these challenges, Syngenta Seedcare offers an industry leading product portfolio based on its world-class research, product development and support capabilities. We call it a three-pillar offer P.A.S. (Products – Application – Services) which delivers value to our customers BEYOND SEED PROTECTION™
That is, they develop and market protective treatments for seeds and advise their clients in the field.
MOZ was being interviewed on the occasion of the latest Euroseeds conference. On this organization, from Wikipedia:
