More CDs on offer, free (other than shipping expenses) for the asking: two collections of hymns of praise based mostly in folk and gospel traditions: #12, singing in the various shapenote traditions; #13, singing in other traditions (black gospel, white gospel, mountain music early American music, contemporary folk, etc.).
The #12 collection has about 30 CDs, ranging broadly over the various shapenote traditions, including both white singers and black singers in the raw rural Southern traditions, plus many adaptations of the hymns by more conventionally trained singers. The #13 collection has about 60 CDs, including many Christmas songs — yes, a large number, which we would be willing to chop into two loosely alphabetical collections:
#13a: African American gospel singing, early American hymn singing, Anonymous 4 recordings, lots of Joel Cohen and the Boston Camerata, Chanticleer, and more
#13b: white gospel music, early American hymn singing, Smoky Mountain hymns, Shaker songs, the McGarrigle family and the Roches, Melanesian choirs, and more.
Amazing stuff.
You can ask for any number of these collections.
