In #1, Ruthie’s grandfather gums things up by introducing the word sabulous, which Ruthie of course treats as a portmanteau of fabulous and Sabbath. And then she runs aground on the common noun sandy and the proper name Sandy.
Meanwhile, #2 has a groaning play on Trancendental Meditation: transit dental meditation ‘meditation on dental matters while on public transit’.
