An owl composed of foodstuffs. Turns out there’s quite a range of such compositions.
Earlier on this blog, little penguins made from foodstuffs, here. And on several websites, other representational food art — for instance, the 40 Extraordinary Examples of Edible Art site, with things like this tree frog made with an apple and a carrot:
(The site has subsections on butter sculpture and latte faces.)
Other sites specialize in amazing cakes, some representational, some merely impressive.
While in principle, these creations are edible, that isn’t the point for most of them; they’re demonstrations of cleverness.
Such things are first cousins to the portraits of Arcimboldo and other paintings in this spirit:
Giuseppe Arcimboldo … (1527 – July 11, 1593) was an Italian painter best known for creating imaginative portrait heads made entirely of such objects as fruits, vegetables, flowers, fish, and books – that is, he painted representations of these objects on the canvas arranged in such a way that the whole collection of objects formed a recognizable likeness of the portrait subject. That’s a genuine Arcimboldo. By another hand, on AZBlogX, here, a dickface, that is, a face made of penises. All very playful.
