Day by day

Difficult night last night. Slept uneasily from 6:30 only to 2:10, and with a substantial break in the middle. Took a levothyroxine tab, then needed to wait an hour before eating breakfast. Fresh news: results of the blood test for TB — an absolute legal requirement for admission to a living community — had come in, negative as expected, so everything can go forward. Meanwhile, I spent the time marking still more things (like wastebaskets and power cords) as to be moved and others as not to be. (It’s hard to look at familiar things with fresh eyes; familiar things become background, unremarked.)

Went on to breakfast just after 3 am, and was overcome with anxiety over how to manage getting through my complex scheme of 14 medications at 5 different times on the day of the move. (I am devising a plan.) On the other hand, I reviewed, with some sense of accomplishment, yesterday’s work with my grandchild Opal (who came armed with detailed floor plans for suite 3003 at Avant) about where all the stuff that gets moved will fit into the various rooms of the place. (I had considerable residual anxiety over the fact that nothing can be stored in a place that requires my reaching up above my head; floor plans are not helpful here.) It turns out that having an extra bathroom is useful, not of course because it has another toilet and another shower, but because it has plenty of storage space where stuff can be stashed  — in particular, the big pile of backups for household supplies.

(Meanwhile, I took two hours of deep satisfying nap, so that I feel human again.)

No doubt there will be unpleasant surprises.

A change of address has been filed — very cleverly, by Opal on my behalf — with the USPS (there will then be endless changes for specific mailings). Xfinity will move the internet, phone, and tv connections, but requires that most of the hardware has to be replaced; new equipment is to be delivered to me (at my current address) today or tomorrow, and we’ll worry about installing it after the move.

Meanwhile, I’m closing out my helpers here. The housecleaner comes for her last time today, and my helper / caregiver Isaac tomorrow. Then Elizabeth and Opal will be away for a long Fourth of July holiday, during which I’ll be on my own. After that, the deluge.

I would like to use this period to do some catching up on posting. That is, after all, what holidays are for: getting work done.
