A new intricately playful Bizarro series (by Wayno) began on 7/14, with two word boxes, a supertitle Now Playing on A.I. Radio and a regular title; the regular title is a play on the name of a musical group that you might hear on the radio, but with the name altered as if it had been retrieved by a somewhat loopy associative AI program; and with an image that illustrates the goofy name. And then Wayno supplies a further jokey title that’s a play on a further name or title connected in some way with the cartoon. The series, with all of these moving parts, was still going today, 7/26.
Here I bring you the second and third strips, from 7/15 (Wu-Tang Clam) and 7/16 (Bob Marley and a Whaler). Today it’s The Mamas and the Pupas, and I’m one happy cartumer (ok, ok, cartoon consumer).
7/15 (Wu-Tang Clam).
(#1) Wu-Tang Clan on the AI radio (if you’re puzzled by the odd symbols in the cartoon — Wayno says there are 3 in this strip — see this Page)
From Wikipedia:
Wu-Tang Clan are an American hip hop collective formed in Staten Island, New York City, in 1992. Its members include RZA, GZA, Method Man, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, Inspectah Deck, U-God, Masta Killa, and, until his death in 2004, Ol’ Dirty Bastard. Close affiliate Cappadonna later became an official member. They are credited for revitalizing East Coast hip hop and are considered one of the greatest hip hop groups of all time.

Wayno’s extra title: Ol’ Dirty Bivalve. A combination of one of the founding member’s stage name — Ol’ Dirty Bastard — and bivalve as a reference to the clam in the cartoon. From Wikipedia:
Russell Tyrone Jones (November 15, 1968 – November 13, 2004), known professionally as Ol’ Dirty Bastard (often abbreviated as ODB), was an American rapper. He was one of the founding members of the New York rap group Wu-Tang Clan.
7/16 (Bob Marley and a Whaler).
(#3) Bob Marley and the Wailers on the AI radio (Wayno says there are 3 odd symbols in this strip)
From Wikipedia:
Robert Nesta Marley (6 February 1945 – 11 May 1981) was a Jamaican singer, songwriter, and guitarist. Considered one of the pioneers of reggae, he fused elements of reggae, ska and rocksteady and was renowned for his distinctive vocal and songwriting style. Marley increased the visibility of Jamaican music worldwide and became a global figure in popular culture. He became known as a Rastafarian icon, and he infused his music with a sense of spirituality. Marley is also considered a global symbol of Jamaican music and culture and identity and was controversial in his outspoken support for democratic social reforms…
(#4) Marley in 1976 (Wikipedia photo)Born in Nine Mile, Jamaica, Marley began his career in 1963, after forming the group Teenagers with Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer, which became the Wailers.
Wayno’s extra title: I Harpooned the Sheriff. The song title “I Shot the Sheriff” (a song written by Marley and released in 1973 with his band the Wailers) with the verb harpoon (from the harpoon carried by the whaler in the strip) replacing the verb shot, as a kind of intrusion from the cartoon world.
