The cold hags of summer cackle over a cauldron of fresh vegetables in this Roz Chast cartoon from the 6/23/25 New Yorker:
From NOAD:
noun gazpacho: a Spanish-style soup made from tomatoes and other vegetables and spices, served cold
More specifically, fresh tomatoes, cucumber, bell pepper, and red onion, with garlic, leftover white bread, olive oil, sherry vinegar, and salt and pepper. No cooking, just blending — and then serious chilling. Fabulous, as the Sisters will tell you.
Many, many variants on the theme, and some culinary riffs, like the cucumber-tomatillo gazpacho in my 8/8/20 posting “More cucumber soups”. It’s cold soup time, and if you can see gazpacho, vichyssoise can’t be far away.
