Let’s go paleo

Today’s Bizarro:

(#1)

(If you’re puzzled by the odd symbols in the cartoon — Dan Piraro says there are 3 in this strip — see this Page.)

Implementing he Paleolitic diet, Paleo diet, caveman diet, Stone Age diet, or hunter-gatherer diet, right along with the appropriate hunting practices, for the appropriate prey.

From my 10/23/14 posting “Miss Florence and the Paleo diet” on the diet: “a modern nutritional diet designed to emulate, insofar as possible using modern foods, the diet of wild plants and animals eaten by humans during the Paleolithic era” (Wikipedia).

It’s a diet, not a cuisine, so is largely characterized by what is cut back or cut out: in this case, no refined sugars, processed food, grains, potatoes, dairy products, processed oils. And, often legumes (beans, peas, chickpeas, soybeans, lentils, peanuts). Here’s the description of the Freshly food delivery company’s Paleo Beef Chili, making a point of its beanlessness:

Our hearty beef chili, made without beans for a paleo twist, is a nutrient-packed powerhouse. Fresh ground beef is simmered with a flavorful blend of carrots, onions, and red bell peppers, and served in a thick ancho chili sauce.

Quite tasty. And you don’t need rocks and clubs.
