The Two Ronnies

Following my posting on “the Bayloo puzzle”, Nick Fitch reminded me on Facebook of a sketch by The Two Ronnies that turns on misunderstandings of English expressions:

The sketch is known variously as “Four Candles” and “Fork Handles”.

From Wikipedia:

The Two Ronnies was a British sketch show which aired on BBC1 from 1971 to 1987. It featured the double act of Ronnie Barker [the larger one] and Ronnie Corbett [the smaller one], the “Two Ronnies” of the title.

Many of their sketches were based on language play. Two further examples:

“Swedish Made Simple: FUNEX?”, with letter and number names used to produce mock Swedish. And

“Spoonerisms”, with a scene of the Rev. Spooner at home.
