    Strangely, the homoerotic character of depictions of Saint Sebastian never struck me before, but now that you point them out, I also realized that Sebastian Flyte in Brideshead Revisted is an obvious allusion, too. The homoerotic tension between Sebastian and Charles Ryder and Sebastian’s “martyrdom” towards the end of the story couldn’t be more on point.
