Away from my desk

Since my last posting — “I am the rose for Sharon”, on 6/22 — I’ve been taken up by (a) the usual self-care and household care, but managed without a helper / caregiver (my caregiver J was the last one I had, and he was last here on 6/5), and (b) extraordinary amounts of extra labor, as I begin months of clearing out this condo preparatory to being moved to a much smaller assisted care facility (this work proceeds very slowly because of my seriously disabled hands and my inability to deal with stuff on the floor). There’s been no time to write postings (though I owe completions for a slew of them, and continue to pick up new topics every day).

My apologies; I am unstrung.

Speaking for at least some of your fans, may I say that you don’t owe us an apology for a few days’ silence. We love seeing your posts, but I bet there’s barely a good blogger on the planet who posts every single day, and you are up there in the top percentile with your regularity combined with so much of it being interesting to a large portion of your very wide readership. I don’t know how you manage it — I sure couldn’t, and both my hands work, pain-free no less, plus I can pick things up off the floor if the chihuahuas don’t get to it first. There are surely people whose day is worse for your missing a post, but for many of us, the post is a gift that we don’t need an apology for not receiving now and then!

Arnold, I so sympathize with your plight. I am facing the same sort of oncoming task (downsizing radically to eventually move to some retirement facility) and the labor involved scares the heck out of me. I can only wish you relief somehow from your own task and a successful move! In the meantime, please don’t feel the need to apologize for not posting. We out here all love you and appreciate what you write; but please do it only at your total convenience.

      Oh my, thank you.

This is my third downsizing, but the first while I’m so disabled, without a car, etc. And of course over the years I’d turned this condo into an elaborate eccentric art show, all of which has to be undone, and that’s painful. But I want to be able to continue my writing, so I’ll give up all the rest.
