Two cartoons in today’s feed, a Calvin and Hobbes and a One Big Happy:
In #1, Calvin and his mother part ways on what counts as a snack. For both, it’s
a small amount of food eaten between meals (NOAD2)
For his mother, this is something healthful, like a piece of fruit. But for Calvin, a snack is necessarily some kind of junk food, preferably candy.
In #2, Ruthie takes the position that to communicate successfully with someone, you have to “speak their language”, language they’ll understand — in this case, hollering at kids.
