Short shot #55: scallibut

On Top Chef All Stars today, one of the contestants presented a piece of halibut cut and seared to look like a scallop, which was immediately dubbed “scallibut”.

Putting aside the dubious move of making halibut look like a scallop — I doubt that the practice will catch on — the portmanteau is entertaining, in part because it suggests scuttlebutt.
